2017 Season Accolades

Many thanks to the players, volunteers and board members for a fine golf summer season. The STAR Award recipient is Maureen Smith and is in a separate posting.

Here are a few highlights from the Autumn themed breakfast meeting.

The Most Improved Player Award went to Elaine Howell who improved her handicap by 6 points and played over 70 rounds of golf. Well done Elaine. Your clubs likely have earned new grips.

The Most Pars Award ( for players with GHIN >35 ) went to Renee Sessler

The Most Birdies Award went to Eva Corbin. Katie Shaw birdied two of the most difficult holes on the course, holes 4 and 16.

The Closest to the Pin Award also went to Eva Corbin. Eva had quite a season with a Hole in One during WIP competition and an EAGLE on Hole 18. She also won the Club Championship.

Two players made Holes in One this season on our home course; Carla Bolme on Hole 3 and Julie Silverio on Hole 11 plus Eva’s at WIP. Carla, too, had many accolades and wins throughout the year.

Many others had personal achievements such as breaking 100 or 90, Pars, Birdies, KPs and received pins. The Ringer Award went to Judy Hayes on her Eclectic Card.

The biggest accomplishment of all is being out and playing this great game of golf, oneself with the course.

Added under the main menu is the complete list of results for the season.

Well Played Ladies.

2017 STAR Award Recipient Maureen Smith

The prestigious STAR AWARD for an inspiring woman was awarded to Maureen Smith.

LPGA Pro Karrie Webb with Maureen Smith

She is professional, kind and has an excellent sportswoman demeanor. She is a natural teammate and coach.  She makes many selfless contributions through her role as WGA Board Event Coordinator for the past 10 years and yet still volunteers to help out at other club events when she has time. Most recently she just showed up to help at the Grace House BBQ Event and told me it turned out she was glad as they were short handed.

She is Coach of the Blanchet Girls Golf team. She plays in many events and is on the OGA Women’s Inter-club Match Play Team. She Captain’s the WGA 18 Hole Play on Thursdays.

She is extremely friendly and approachable. She teaches us all when we assist her in her crafts that she creates for golf events.

She volunteers for the USGA and most recently volunteered at the 2017 US Open in addition to LPGA events.

She is inspiring in how she is just an all around wonderful person. She easily meets all of the criteria for the STAR AWARD.  Thank you Maureen for all that you do and all that you are.
